Other Information:
The Making of CyberDetroit gives some insight and "behind the scenes" information about how the CyberDetoit VRML world was created.

The CyberDetroit VRML world uses a number of innovative techniques. The worlds were designed and built to be one continuous world where, on opening the door to the next world, you become immediately immersed in that world without experiencing the time penalty associated with loading in the next world. This was accomplished by preloading all the worlds up front, and switching the worlds on and off during the presentation. While this does increase the preload time up front, as you go through the presentation, the flow is not interrupted.

More than 3.9MB of textures were used to add realism to the worlds. Careful attention was paid to the lighting used so that the lighting from one world does not spill into other worlds. 3d spatialized sounds were added to punctuate the animation throughout the worlds.
